Most campgrounds are open year-round, and some offer discounts for off-season camping. Many of the more popular campgrounds fill up early, so we strongly recommend making reservations to assure availability.

STATE PARKS
There are numerous State Parks within the Oxnard & Ventura County Region. The State Park reservation system allows campers to plan ahead and secure their campsites, thus reducing long waiting lines and turn-aways at park entrances. All campers receive fair access to state parks campgrounds.

Emma Wood State Beach - 97 Campsites (Generally 68 are Open)
Open Year Round
Moderate ocean temperature at Emma Wood State Beach makes the area a great place for swimming, surfing and fishing. Catches include perch, bass, cabezon and corbina. The beach also features the crumbling ruins of a World War II coastal artillery site. There is a grassy area for groups and a campground for hikers and bikers.

Getting There:
The beach is two miles west of Ventura. North Beach is reached via Highway 101. The group camp's entrance is at the west end of Main Street in Ventura.
McGrath State Beach Campground - 174 campsites
McGrath State Beach is one of the best bird-watching areas in California, with the lush riverbanks of the Santa Clara River and sand dunes along the shore in Oxnard. A nature trail leads to the Santa Clara Estuary Natural Preserve. Two miles of beach provide surfing and fishing opportunities, however, swimmers are urged to use caution because of strong currents and riptides. The park offers campsites by the beach.

Point Mugu State Park
Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, features five miles of ocean shoreline with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches and sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons, wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing and surf fishing. The 13,300-acre park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.

This park has two year-round reservable campgrounds. One is developed (Big Sycamore Canyon, with 50 wooded sites and the other is known as Thornhill Broome). There's also a 12-site hike-in or bike-in campground at La Jolla Valley, reached via La Jolla Canyon or Sycamore Canyon. The walk-in campground has piped water and restrooms, but you'll need to bring your own stove and fuel; ground fires aren't permitted.

Sycamore Canyon - 50 sites

Thornhill Broome Beach State Park - 80 Beach sites
Thornhill Broome Beach (Primitive). Thornhill Broome campground has no showers, chemical toilets, and no shade.
Leo Carillo State Beach - 138 sites
The beach was named after Leo Carrillo, a popular radio and TV performer, who also served on the State Park and Recreation Commission. He was related by blood and marriage to a long of distinguished original Californians. The park has 1.5 miles of beach for swimming, surfing, windsurfing, surf fishing and beachcombing. The beach also has tidepools, coastal caves and reefs for exploring. Nature walks and campfire programs are offered (call the park for schedules) and a small visitor center has interpretive displays. Giant sycamore shade the main campgrounds. The park also features hiking upland.

NATIONAL PARKS
The Channel Islands National Park offers primitive tent camping on Anacapa; San Miguel; Santa Barbara; Santa Cruz, Del Norte; Santa Cruz, Scorpion Valley; and Santa Rosa Islands.
Island Packers offers boat transportation for camping in the Channel Islands. All campers are required to obtain a camping permit. After you have reserved your boat transportation with Island Packers, you have to call 1-800-365-2267 to obtain a camping permit, or you can obtain your permit online by visiting: http://reservations.nps.gov.
Channel Islands Aviation offers Daytrips, Camper Transportation and Surf Fishing to Santa Rosa Island, (805) 987-1301.

Ventura Beach RV Resort is a private RV park offering full hookups, showers, supplies and recreational facilities.
Features picnic tables with fire rings, handicap showers, playground and arcades. Group barbecues, square dances, horseshoe pit, volleyball, sidewalk checkers and rentals for both 2- and 4-wheel bikes are available for guests' entertainment. The park is just a short walk to beach. The bike path begins at the park. Pay phones are available. The camp hosts 168 sites, of which 144 are full hookup. The maximum site length is 70 feet. The maximum electrical is 50 amps.
LAKE CASITAS RECREATION AREA - Lake Casitas Recreation Area
Lake Casitas is conveniently located between Santa Barbara and Ventura nestled between the sandy beaches of the coast and spectacular mountains towering over the Ojai Valley.
Lake Casitas has 32 miles of shoreline and 6,200 acres of oak trees and rolling hills. The lake is filled with trout, bass, catfish, crappie and sunfish with "world class" fish catches frequently recorded. Facilities include two boat launching ramps, large fishing docks, electrical and water hookup camping sites and picnic areas.
The Park holds many special events including the prestigious Ojai Wine Festival, the popular Ojai Renaissance Festival and the cultural Native American Indian Pow-Wow and was proud to host the 1984 Olympic canoeing and rowing events.
The Casitas Park Store features groceries, ice, propane, rental trailers and camping supplies. The Casitas Bait and Tackle Shop has boat and slip rentals, marine repair, fishing tackle, gasoline and fishing licenses. The Casitas Snack Bar serves breakfast, lunch, ice cream and treats. On weekends and holidays various types of cycles are available for rent from the Cycles-4-Rent Concession, and the Center For Earth Concerns operates Wildlife & Nature Cruises on the lake by appointment only.
At Lake Casitas, you choose the camping experience that suits you best. Each of the 12 campgrounds features a distinct personality. Some are lakeside, while others are nestled among the trees or tucked along the hillsides. Some are more centrally located near bathrooms and showers, while others are more remote. We have sites for tents, tent trailers, campers and RVs.
